Today, eight candidates will vie for the esteemed title of Queen of the Elders of the Carnival in a grand gala at the Fairgrounds of Tenerife’s capital, commencing at 5:30 p.m. The event will be hosted by Petite Lorena and David García, and will feature captivating performances by Azúcar Moreno and Pepe Benavente.
This year’s Queen of the Elderly gala, directed by Daniel Pages, will include exciting novelties, such as the performance by the duo Azúcar Moreno, marking the first time in the history of this contest that a national group will be taking the stage.
Consistent with tradition, the competition is part of the celebration of the Festival of Elderly Groups of the Chicharrero Carnival, showcasing groups such as Monte Nevado, Rondalla Las Nieves, Association of the Third Age Tegueste, Association of the Mayores Antón Guanche, Home of the Pensioner Father Anchieta, Sisters Hospitallers SCI Acamán, With Our People Chincanayros, Volcanes del Teide, Mayores del 2000 and Las Incansables de Icod.
The esteemed jury panel comprises María Luisa González Álvarez, IASS staff and former photographer for the senior newspaper Ansina; María José Cámara Cabeza, presenter and talk show host for Canarias Radio; Beatriz Galván de la Rosa, textile designer and co-founder of the Tipomedia Design Studio; Héctor Iván Díaz García (Iván Retamas), illustrator; and Paula Plaza Moreno, doctor in Fine Arts and teacher.
The gala will be broadcast live on Televisión Canaria across the entire Archipelago. The doors of the Fairgrounds will open to the public at 4:00 p.m.
