The Court of Violence against Women number 2 of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has decided to postpone the testimonies scheduled for this Tuesday in the case of gender-based violence involving the former chief commissioner of the National Police in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Luis Felipe San Martín.
According to the communications department of the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC), the postponement was requested by one of the involved parties in the investigation, which was initiated over a month ago following a complaint filed by an inspector of the Judicial Police Brigade of the National Police of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The new date for the testimonies of the accused, the victim, and the complainant, originally scheduled for this Tuesday, has not been disclosed.
Upon leaving the City of Justice in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Luis Felipe San Martín refused to provide any statements to the media: “I can’t say anything.”
The allegations against him involve an alleged use of his service pistol to threaten his partner, leading to his provisional suspension from duty in December of last year.
The investigation was initiated by a court in Santa Cruz de Tenerife based on a complaint from the head of the Provincial Brigade of the Judicial Police of the National Police. Subsequently, a USB memory containing a video and a frame of the woman claiming to be a victim of gender-based violence was submitted to the investigators of the Family and Women’s Care Unit (UFAM).
However, as the woman, of Lithuanian origin, resides on the island of Gran Canaria, the initial court recused itself in favor of another judicial body on the second island. Consequently, the Court of Violence Against Women number 2 in the capital of Gran Canaria is now leading the investigation.
The video, made public by several media outlets, shows the weapon and captures phrases from the ex-girlfriend pleading, “please leave it, put the gun down. Please, Luis,” and urging him to tell the truth. The commissioner is also heard asking him to reveal “the truth” and share what happened.
