Las Palmas Carnival: Tenerife Carnival Imitating Las Palmas de Gran Canaria: Including Drag Gala

Also, the Carnival of Santa Cruz of Tenerife will feature a Drag Gala for the first time in its history. This decision comes after multiple unofficial attempts to organize a show dedicated to this world and despite the Chicharrero City Council’s numerous assurances that they wouldn’t replicate the flagship event of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Carnival.

This time, and at last, The Festival Councilor in Santa Cruz, the nationalist Javier Caraballero, has succeeded in integrating this show into the Chicharrero Carnival, albeit with a different format from the neighboring island.. The specifics of this new competition at the Santa Cruz de Tenerife festival will be unveiled by the City Council in a press conference scheduled for January 31, Wednesday.

It can be anticipated that The Dragnaval Gala will take place on Piñata Friday, February 16, in the Plaza de La Candelaria. The Consistory emphasizes that this new event aims to promote the Drag collective and Drag culture in the Canary Islands. “Moreover, it presents an opportunity for citizens, whether they are drag show professionals or not, to participate in an event with significant impact.”

The artist and presenter Exuberancia Carey will host the Dragnaval Gala.

The Chicharrero City Council has relented and decided to include this new event in its carnival program, whether it is imitative or not, it has numerous followers.
