SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, January 30. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Alternativa Icodense and PSOE have ratified a governance accord in Icod de los Vinos on Tuesday with the intention of revitalizing the municipality through road infrastructure development, enhancement of San Marcos beach, the Cueva del Viento visitor center, social services, tourism promotion, sports, and education, among other focal points.
The agreement was revealed at a media briefing by the secretary general of Alternativa Icodense and the mayor, Javier Sierra Jorge, the secretary general of the PSOE of Tenerife, Pedro Martín, and the councilors Mónica Hernández (AI) and Soledad Palenzuela and Gerardo Rizo (PSOE).
Seniors, Equality, Women, and LGTBIQ+ portfolios, as well as the role of fifth term mayor, will be taken on by the latter, while Gerardo Rizo will oversee Tourism and Icodtesa, in addition to being the eighth deputy mayor. Nevertheless, as per a statement by the PSOE, he will not be dedicated full-time and will not receive remuneration.
Javier Sierra highlighted the “excellent rapport” that both factions have maintained during the initial months of the term, underscoring that the agreement is “the outcome of dialogue and a robust project after years of stagnation, with Icod ceased to move forward beyond day-to-day management and patchwork solutions.”
Pedro Martín emphasized the presence of “a united project.”
“We did not consider stipulating a specific number of councilors to join, rather, we commenced with a project, and that is why we did not enter the government from the outset. It’s a progressive initiative for a progressive perspective of the North, encompassing numerous common elements intended to extricate the municipality from the inertia of recent years, aiming to reclaim the prominence it once held,” he stated.
Gerardo Rizo asserted that the agreement document “intersects both electoral blueprints with pivotal aspects, such as regional connections and roads, as well as addressing soaring unemployment rates, particularly among the youth, the San Juan beach project, and endeavors to promote the Cueva del Viento visitor center.”
Javier Sierra also stressed that “having a representative at the State Government level is also advantageous for all Icodenses.”
