Coast Guard has brought 192 migrants, including 24 minors, who were aboard three barges located to the south and southwest of both Gran Canaria and Tenerife, as reported by a spokesperson for the state agency to EFE this Monday.
At 3:54 p.m. this Sunday, the Salvamar Nunki rescued three individuals of Maghreb origin from a boat spotted 17.5 kilometers south of Maspalomas (Gran Canaria). The rescued migrants disembarked at 6:00 p.m. in Arguineguín and the crew set off again at 10:40 p.m. to search for another migrant expedition.
This time, they found an inflatable located 31.5 kilometers south of Maspalomas.
There were 52 people aboard – one of sub-Saharan origin and the rest from the Maghreb (47 men and four women) – who were disembarked at the Arguineguín dock at 1:15 a.m.
Almost simultaneously (9:58 p.m.) but in Tenerife, the Salvamar Alpheratz was mobilized to assist a third vessel located by the Helimer 206 to the southwest of the island.
The vessel was carrying 137 people of sub-Saharan origin (109 men, four women, and 24 minors), and they were accompanied to Los Cristianos, where they arrived at 1:38 a.m.
These three new rescues of people on the Canary Islands migratory route come after a weekend during which a thousand individuals arrived in El Hierro and Gran Canaria, and during which five of them lost their lives in their attempt to seek a better life.
