SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, January 29. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Tenerife, an official sponsor of ‘Madrid Fusión 2024’, commenced its activities at the congress by presenting an extensive gastronomic proposal showcasing the best of its territory and products.

The island’s immersive stand, spreading across 300 square meters, became the highlight of the first day of the culinary event, hosting around twenty activities in different spaces such as Edible Landscapes, Volcanic Origin, Liquid Aromas, along with the 75 square meter Wine Tunnel, the Great Tenerife Wine Tasting, and a presentation by Alberto Margallo titled ‘The Anaga Landscape in Haute Cuisine: Limpets, Prickly Pears, and Yams’.

The Tenerife stand offers diverse programs including breakfasts, lunches, workshops, tastings, and discussions, all designed to immerse attendees in the island’s essence through high-quality audiovisuals, attracting professionals, journalists, chefs, and business figures.

Lope Afonso, Vice President and Tourism Councilor of the Cabildo, emphasized the positive impact of Tenerife’s participation in ‘Madrid Fusion’, stating that “Tenerife has sparked emotions and expectations among professionals, journalists, and every visitor to the stand.”

Highlighting the interest generated by Tenerife’s gastronomy, he pointed out the unique diversity that has made the island the focal point of the congress.

He added that the successful combination of tradition and innovation has positioned Tenerife as a world-class destination.

Valentín González, the Minister of the Primary Sector, emphasized the “exceptional opportunity” for the island to showcase local products firsthand, providing a different dimension and appreciation for the work of local producers.

Dimple Melwani, the CEO of Tenerife Tourism, expressed her “pride” in the professional team representing the island at ‘Madrid Fusion 2024’.

SYNERGY BETWEEN TOURISM AND PRIMARY SECTOR

Melwani indicated, “We have exceeded all expectations on the first day with activities that have showcased our landscape, local products, and the seamless connection between tourism and the primary sector.”

She also mentioned that “the three distinct spaces of the stand provide a comprehensive display of what Tenerife has to offer, truly immersing visitors into the essence of the island.”

The CEO highlighted the collaboration with the island’s municipalities, particularly Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Candelaria, in presenting their gastronomy in coordination with the Tenerife Tourism team.

In line with this coordination, Santiago del Teide and San Miguel de Abona will be featured on Tuesday, followed by Puerto de la Cruz on Wednesday.

Tenerife’s presence at ‘Madrid Fusion’ also includes a dedicated space at the Saborea España stand, where the island is a member representing other notable gastronomic destinations across the country.

The Tenerife delegation comprises over a hundred professionals, including producers, chefs, pastry chefs, sommeliers, restaurateurs, winemakers, technicians from the six designations of origin of Tenerife wines, and students and teachers from various branches of gastronomy and hospitality.

ACTIVITIES ON THE FIRST DAY

The stand organized various educational and recreational activities, such as breakfasts, lunches, wine tastings, and gastronomic discussions about Tenerife’s exceptional honeys and gofio.

Chef Alberto Margallo showcased haute cuisine dishes featuring the most emblematic yet lesser-known products from the Anaga massif, demonstrating their transformation beyond traditional usage. Dishes included gazpacho with fig, volcanic arbequina and shrimp, liquefied pickled carrot with grilled limpet and salicornia, and nitro ice cream of yam and palm sap.

The Great Tenerife Wine Tasting primarily featured the listán grape in its black and white varieties, captivating sommeliers, chefs, journalists, and distributors from Spain and abroad.

The Tenerife Wine Tunnel, personalized for attendees to explore and taste the diversity, quality, and uniqueness of the island’s wines, remained consistently occupied throughout the day, offering an immersive experience.
