A total of fifteen educational centers from Fuerteventura participated in the 11th edition of the educational film festival Cinedfest. The island achieved a record number of participants, with around 400 students working on the creation of their own short films to be presented in the competition.
The cinematographic journey of Cinedfest begins with a training program facilitated by the experienced filmmaker Roberto Álvarez. Over the course of a month, the registered educational centers receive theoretical and practical training through teaching materials, video workshops, in-person and online classes, script laboratory, and constant guidance, as stated in a Monday statement by the Majorero Council.
Nereida Calero, the advisor responsible for the Fuerteventura Film Commission, detailed that the program provides students with “fundamental knowledge in audiovisual language, as well as the necessary skills to create their own fiction or documentary short films.”
“The work starts from the initial idea, progressing through the different phases of script writing, pre-production, filming, and editing,” she explained.
The productions will compete in two galas: the first on June 13 in Fuerteventura, where the winning short film that will represent the island in the grand final on June 20 in Tenerife will be decided.
In addition to the participating centers in Fuerteventura, a total of 211 educational centers from the Canary Islands have already registered for this edition of Cinedfest: 86 from Tenerife, 74 from Gran Canaria, 18 from Lanzarote, 16 from La Palma, one from El Hierro, and one from La Gomera.
Additionally, 70 educational centers on the Peninsula, three universities, and four associations will participate.
Cinedfest is an educational and cultural project that originated in the Canary Islands under the direction of filmmaker David Cánovas and composer Antonio Hernández. The statement highlights that it has evolved into a national event, even attracting short films from countries such as Mexico, Colombia, and Ecuador.
