On February 1st, 2024, the proclamation of the festivities for the Carnival of Icod de los Vinos will be read, with Antonio J. Polegre directing and a special tribute to Gabino Palenzuela González. The event will commence at 8:00 p.m. at Plaza de Luis de León Huerta, marking the commencement of Tenerife’s most lively Carnival in the north, themed on cartoons.
Today, the Plaza de Luis de León Huerta was the venue for the program presentation event, presided over by the mayor of the municipality, Javier Sierra, and several councilors, including festival councilor Cathaysa Concepción who detailed the program’s contents.
Sierra emphasized, “February will be a month of joy and celebration for the Icodense carnival, with a comprehensive program encompassing various galas, the parade, the symbolic burial of the sardine, and the drag gala, providing a distinctive leisure alternative.”
The program also includes the Children’s Queen Election Gala, featuring seven candidates, scheduled for Sunday, February 4th; the Children’s Parade, from Calvario to Plaza de América on Friday the 14th at 10 a.m. and in the evening, the Senior Festival at 7:00 p.m. on La Magalona Street, adjacent to the old municipal market.
The Carnival’s climax will be on Sunday, February 11th, starting at 5 p.m., culminating in a grand dance featuring the Maquinaria Band orchestra, The Boys Machine, the Volcánicos orchestra and DJ Adam Lorr.
The Queen’s Election gala will take place on Saturday the 10th, starting at 9:00 p.m. in La Magalona, next to the old market, with four candidates participating.
On Monday, February 12th, the Children’s Costume Contest will be held at 5:00 p.m. followed by a Carnival dance at 10:00 p.m. in the Plaza de Luis de León Huerta, featuring the Los Teymar orchestra, Grupo Kimbara, and DJ Chaggy.
On Thursday the 15th, at 8:30 p.m., the VIII edition of the Drag Queen and Transformismo Gala will take place with performances by Drag Chuchi, Drag Vulcano, Drag Sethlas, Miss Daneyen, and Corina Ferrer, and a special appearance by Supreme Deluxe.
On Friday the 16th, at the annex to the Plaza de América, the Murgas Contest will be held with performances by Tiralengüines, Incansables, Deslenguadas, Chaladas, And why not? and Tongue-Thrower.
Finally, on Saturday the 17th at 4:00 p.m., the symbolic burial of the sardine will take place at the Luis de León Huerta square, followed by a wake with Ni un pelo de Tonto, Los Vcándalos, and Dj Chaggy, leading to the exit of the Burial of the Sardine at 7:00 p.m., culminating in a lively dance by the Sonora Olympia orchestra, Corynto Band Orchestra, and DJ Chaggy.
