The award for ‘Best Spanish Urban Destination’ has been granted to the Spanish Federation of Tourism Journalists and Writers (FIJET Spain) by the City Council of La Laguna.
This recognition acknowledges the exceptional promotion and management efforts undertaken by various entities and businesses within the tourism industry, as confirmed by the City Council itself.
Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, the mayor of La Laguna and president of the Group of Heritage Cities, expressed his pride in accepting the award, emphasizing that “it is a tremendous source of pride that the World Heritage City leading this Group, and the only one in the Canary Islands with the distinction of World Heritage, has been selected as one of the preferred destinations for tourists in our country in 2024.”
Gutiérrez also underlined the significance of this award in enhancing the visibility of the city and the Group on both national and international platforms. Additionally, he noted that La Laguna recently received the prestigious Access City Award 2024, the European Union’s most significant recognition for universal accessibility and disability.
Miguel Ángel González, the president of FIJET Spain, had the privilege of presenting this accolade to the City Council of La Laguna, emphasizing the city’s longstanding efforts in the tourism sector. González highlighted that the voting for this award involves tourism specialists from across the country, which reflects the numerous qualities that La Laguna offers as a destination, positioning it favorably for national and international tourists compared to other destinations within Spain’s tourism landscape.
