Bamboos clinched the top spot for Performance at the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival’s Murgas competition 2024, with Trapasaros securing the second position and Diablos Locos coming in third. Irónico was also recognized by the jury and awarded the second prize.
In the Presentation category, Diablos Locos was bestowed with the first prize, while the second and third prizes were claimed by Mamelucos and Marchilongas, respectively. The runner-up for the best costume was Trapaseros.
Close to 5,000 attendees were enthralled at the Tenerife Fairgrounds during the grand finale of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival Murgas competition, which featured the participation of a total of eight satirical groups.
The final kicked off with a performance by the Afilarmónica Nifú-Nifá, performed out of competition, paving the way for Los Irónico, Bambones, Guachinquietas, Los Diablos Locos, Triqui-Traques, Mamelucos, Trapaseros, and Burlonas.
The Performance jury comprised Carlos Ascander Burgos Pineda, musician; María Sabrina Lemus Carmenatti, vocal coach, composer, and international mentor; José Alberto Hdez. Hdez., singer of Los Cantadores; Daida Reyes García, presenter, host, and TV producer; María Herrera Noda, editor of “Buenos Días, Canarias” at RTVC; María Olarte Lecuona, contributor of “Intimate Stories from the Stage”; Alberto Delgado Jiménez, cultural and musical events director and producer at Makaron; Juanito Panchín, comedian; and Norberto Trujillo (Bolaños), actor and drama instructor at the Lecuona School.
The Presentation jury included Beatriz Eugenia Delgado Gaspar, Fine Arts graduate and professor of Graphic Design at the Fernando Estévez School of Art and Design; Anamig Francis Amador, Carnival costume designer; and Patricia Hodgson Ravina, Fine Arts graduate, painter, and art curator.
