Tenerife Council has utilized the Fitur platform to exhibit its steadfast dedication to sustainability and secure the engagement of the industry in its strategic plan. During the event, the Tenerife representation conveyed the primary objectives of its economic, social, and environmental sustainability plan to tour operators, travel agency networks, airlines, and hotel chains, aiming to reinforce the island’s position as a leading tourist destination.
Lope Afonso, the Vice President and Tourism Advisor of the Cabildo, emphasized that Tenerife was presented at the fair as “an appealing destination that demonstrates responsible and conscious leadership in the tourism sector,” which resonated well with the industry. He noted that the second day of Fitur brought exciting news, confirming the destination’s strength with an increase in air seats, guaranteeing summer connectivity through new routes and connections. Afonso also highlighted the introduction of hotel projects to enhance the accommodation offer, and the establishment of the island as a venue for major cultural events, such as the Ed Sheeran concert and Tenerife Music Festival, along with the announcement of a new edition of the Dial Awards Gala on the island.
The CEO of Tourism of Tenerife, Dimple Melwani, stated that the island is at the forefront of sustainability, having received Biosphere certification in April 2021. She also emphasized the commitment to sector requalification to ensure that training meets the actual needs of tourism companies and leads to stable employment for the local population. Furthermore, she reiterated the importance of tourists and the local community contributing to the preservation of the island’s cultural heritage. Finally, Melwani outlined collaborative public-private initiatives aimed at promoting local products and fostering a circular and collaborative economy on the island.
