The festival in honor of San Antonio Abad commences today in Buenavista del Norte, with its main events set to unfold on Sunday. Livestock, predominantly goats, cattle, horses, and a variety of pets such as dogs, cats, birds, turtles, etc., will be showcased at the fairgrounds in the Las Marinas Urbanization (in the Triana area) until the commencement of the pilgrimage.
At 11:30 a.m., the Eucharist celebration, accompanied by the Baracán folklore group, will take place at the Los Remedios parish. Following the religious service, the image of San Antonio Abad will be paraded to the fairgrounds to bless the livestock before setting off on a pilgrimage at around 2:00 p.m., accompanied by festivities, carriages, and pilgrims.
This year, the procession will feature 15 carriages making their way through the main streets of the urban area. It will culminate with the trophy presentation and the pilgrims’ dance, performed by the Malibú Band orchestra, at Plaza de Los Remedios.
The program for this year also includes a kneaded gofio contest, which will reward the flavor, texture, and aroma of the submitted pellets. Additionally, a competition for decorating and beautifying facades, balconies, and shop windows for the festivities will take place.
Festive activities kick off today with an invitation to revelers and groups from the municipality to enjoy an evening of merrymaking at Plaza de Los Remedios. The event will commence at 8:00 p.m. Tomorrow, the local company El Cardón NaturExperience and the Linaje del Pago winery will organize a wine tasting combined with zero kilometer products, in an activity called.
Mayor Eva García highlighted that the festival is “a tribute to our cultural heritage and the special bond this area of the Island shared with cattle raising, being the birthplace of a significant livestock herd in past decades. The councilor emphasized that “the presence of men and women dedicated to the sector in our municipality is testimonial and they deserve our recognition for their devoted work.”
