The mayor of Adeje, José Miguel Rodríguez Fragaheld a brief meeting yesterday with the new tourism ministerJordi Hereu on the first day of the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) taking place this week in Madrid. Hereu visited the post Canary Islands where he took the opportunity to exchange impressions with the first mayor of Adeje, who in turn invited him to hold a work meeting in the coming months and invited him to visit “one of the leading tourist destinations in Spain.”
The technical-political team of the Adeje City Council traveled to Madrid for Fitur opened the first day of work with intense activity. Headed by the mayor of the municipality, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, the Adejera delegation is completed by the Councilor for Tourism, Patricia Paulsen; of the Presidency, Manuel Luis Méndez; as well as advisory and technical staff.

The agenda of Costa Adeje At Fitur it is structured in four axes: from meetings with key agents in the tourism sector to attending events and presentations as well as maintaining contact with future investment companies while promoting the destination at the International Fair stand. The Adeje delegation was yesterday at the inauguration of Fitur by the king, Felipe VI, as well as at the presentation of the Canary Islands stand.
During the morning, the mayor of Adeje led the presentation of the Association of Tourist Municipalities (AMTC) as president, accompanied by Onalia Bueno, mayor of MoganManuel Dominguez, vice president of the Government of the Canary Islandsand Jésica de Lion, Tourism Minister. In this event, together with the director of Telefónica in the Canary Islands, Juan Flores, the signing of the award contract for the implementation of the Canary Green project, decarbonization of destinations, which will be carried out by the 13 municipalities of the AMTC, took place. The municipalities that make up the AMTC play a key role as economic drivers in the context of the Canary archipelago. Its contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the region is significant, exceeding 35% and totaling 16 billion euros in 2018, which is equivalent to 11.1% of the national GDP.
During the afternoon, the mayor participated in a debate table organized by the Hotel Technology Institute at FiturTech. It was developed around the redefinition of the concept of Spain’s sun and beach tourist destination. Precisely, the AMT has concluded a study for the redefinition of this concept that incorporates a reformulation of the necessary requirements to receive that consideration.
