Santa Cruz de Tenerife vies to become a permanent hub of rock and is set to host the Peñón Rock Festival in October for the first time, previously known for its huge success in the municipality of Puerto de la Cruz. As stated by Santiago Díaz, the Councilor for Culture of the Capital City Council, the legendary eighties pop band Hombres G is expected to perform at the event.

The mayor revealed that the Culture department is contemplating organizing the Rock Festival, spanning two days from 10 in the morning to 12 at night, in the Palmetum area or on the esplanade of the Chicharrero pier. Five groups, including national and Canarian bands, are scheduled to perform each day of the event.

The highlight of the festival will undoubtedly be the concert by Hombres G, and tickets are expected to go on sale soon after the finalization of the performance dates. Hombres G, a band that has achieved international sales of over 20 million records, was formed in Madrid in 1981 by vocalist and bassist David Summers and guitarist Rafa Gutiérrez, along with Javier Molina and Daniel Mezquita. They will be the star attraction at this new edition of Peñón Rock.

Santiago Díaz mentioned, “This will mark the first time that the Tenerife capital hosts a large-scale festival dedicated to rock music. Our intention is for it to become a permanent fixture on the city’s event calendar, representing one of the Culture department’s major initiatives for this term in office.”
