El Toscal will have more public parking spaces after the summer and, for this, the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council will proceed to demolish a garage and five homes, now in ruins, that are located on the land that the City Council bought in 2022 , located at Calle de La Rosa number 54, and for which it paid three million euros to create a temporary parking lot to alleviate the lack of parking due to the remodeling of Calle de La Rosa, which is still under construction.
Now, with this action, which will be part of the third phase of the work to improve and widen the sidewalks of the aforementioned street, the parking lot will go from the current 35 spaces to almost 80, in addition to implying a new change as its regulation is planned, it is That is, it must be paid, “although at affordable prices like that of Las Quinteras, in La Laguna,” as announced yesterday by the Councilor for Infrastructure, Javier Rivero, during the presentation of the area’s municipal budget for 2024.
The mayor explained that “for the expansion of the parking lot, which will have three exits on San Martín, Señor de las Tribulaciones and La Rosa streets, 520,000 euros will be allocated and, although the idea was to use it until the works were completed, it will be has decided to keep it as a temporary parking lot even if the work is completed, with the aim of being in line with the implementation of the Low Emissions Zone (ZEB).” However, he stressed, “this decision to convert it into a permanent parking lot will have to be made by the Mobility area, although after the demolition of the homes we will leave the necessary pipes installed for its subsequent fencing, if this is decided.”
Other works
On the other hand, the councilor commented on other works that the City Council will carry out this year, thanks to the 31 million budget that his area will have. Projects that are included in the so-called Transform Santa Cruz plan and in which actions in neighborhoods, recovery of Historical Heritage and sports facilities stand out.
In this sense, Rivero said that “after the Carnival it is planned to begin work on a new plaza on Robayna Street, which has already been awarded for more than 600,000 euros. It is a pedestrianization between Méndez Núñez, Robayna and Avenida Veinticinco de Julio streets and the forecast is for it to be completed in 2025.”
Another action will be the 100% sustainable street, which will imply the creation of a parking lot with shade generated by photovoltaic panels in the Palmetum (1.9 million euros), which will be linked to the reform of Avenida Francisco La Roche, with an investment of 3.5 million.
According to the mayor, “the work will go out to tender at the end of February and would begin after the summer. A first phase in which intervention will be carried out in the section between the Puerto-Ciudad Building and the old Musa; a second phase to Valleseco, and finally a third to Las Teresitas.” Likewise, throughout the year it is also planned to repair the breakwater on Las Teresitas beach, a work that will begin in the first half of the year and will have a budget of 2.3 million destined to adapt the space to an area for walking and access the sea.
Likewise, the mayor pointed out that the storm drain work will also be carried out on Punta de Anaga Street, in the Southwest district, which will provide a solution to flooding in this area when it rains. “It will be the last of the plan that was launched at the time to stop the floods and will be developed between the main highway of the South and Los Alisios, with an investment of 2.5 million financed by the Cabildo,” Rivero stressed.
In turn, the councilor stated that there will be necessary items to begin the rehabilitation of the Guimerá Theater, finish the Masonic Temple or continue with the renovation of Viera y Clavijo Park, in addition to putting out to tender the renovation of the Los Gladiolos soccer fields, García Escámez and El Tablero and continue with the works in progress in the Juan Santa María, Las Delicias or La Salud fields. Funds will also be allocated to urbanize the Buenos Aires Industrial Estate, remodel the Plaza in Barranco Grande, repair the Almáciga sports center and treat the slope on Nijota Street.
The mayor announced that the construction projects for the sports area in Juan XXIII and the repair of the Las Retamas swimming pools, in Ofra, will also be drawn up, to which 25,000 euros will be allocated. In addition, other actions will focus on improving accessibility in La Salud; the remodeling of the Plaza de las 1,000 homes; the urbanizations of Juan Marín Vives, Níspero and 125 streets and Ciudad Jardín; the demolition of the church of San Gerardo; the Palmetum linear park, or the renovation of the pedestrian area of Avenida de Los Majuelos. Work that is expected to begin between 2025 and 2026.
