SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Jan. 22 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo of Tenerife has joined the ‘European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week’ that takes place from this Monday to Friday with the aim of raising awareness among the female population about the prevention of this disease.
The Minister of Education for Prevention, Juan Acosta, invites you to inform yourself about this disease and reminds the female population of Tenerife of the importance of considering vaccination against this virus and undergoing a periodic medical evaluation as a way of prevent cervical cancer.
“Cervical cancer can be prevented and is curable. Therefore, to prevent is to win, says the Minister of Education for Prevention, where he believes it is necessary to create social awareness about the importance of the women of Tenerife empowering themselves in your health since cervical cancer can be prevented,” Acosta said in a note.
Cervical cancer is one of the leading causes of death from cancer in the female population.
Chronic human papillomavirus infection is the underlying cause in more than 99% of cervical cancer cases.
HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection and the majority of the sexually active population comes into contact with the virus throughout their lives.
The infection is asymptomatic so many of those affected are unaware of it and, therefore, can transmit it.
According to statistics and estimates, more than 600,000 new cases are diagnosed on the European continent annually, of which 2,000 cases correspond to Spain.
