Tenerife attends a new edition of the International Tourism Fair, Fitur 2024, which is held from January 24 to 28, with the aim of strengthening its leadership in the national market, after having received 836,455 visitors from January to November 2023. peninsular tourists, 45.2 percent of all travelers from that origin entering the Canary Islands in said period.
The Tenerife delegation in Fitur will be headed by the president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila; the vice president and advisor of Tourism, Lope Afonso and the CEO of Tourism of Tenerife, Dimple Melwani, who will attend the event accompanied by representatives of the island tourism sector such as Ashotel, different town councils or hotel establishments, among others.
Rosa Dávila highlights in a note that Tenerife faces a 2024 tourist year “with good reservation forecasts, guaranteed airline seats and new connectivity, which is also one of the pillars of destination management.”
In this sense, he highlights the “privileged position of Tenerife in the national market, not only enjoying the sun and the beach, but also all the differentiated offer that Tenerife offers such as climate, nature, sports, major cultural and sporting events or gastronomy, thus becoming the island into a true destination of experiences.
Likewise, he points out that “Tenerife continues to be a reference destination in sustainability and digitalization in the sector.”
Lope Afonso affirms that “Tenerife attends Fitur 2024 with the satisfaction of having a very positive balance for the year 2023, where we can speak of full consolidation of the destination after the pandemic, and with the ambition of confirming its leadership position, this time facing a national market full of remains and opportunities and where the developments that await in 2024 can be advanced within the strategy of promoting the island as a destination that works decisively for sustainability, that renews and specializes its offer, that implements the digitalization and where top-level events take place that are capable of attracting the most demanding customer profile.
The objective, he indicates, is “to show a destination that significantly improves its connectivity for this summer and that moves steadily towards the goal of quality.”
For Dimple Melwani, the sla’s strategy for the peninsular market in 2024 “involves strengthening the national market by showing our wide and diverse differentiated tourism offer, beyond the sun and beach, under the umbrella of sustainability in its three aspects: economic , social and environmental, key in each of the actions we design for the island.
OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES
In this sense, he adds that “outdoor activities (sports and nature), heritage and culture or gastronomy, are part of the wide and diverse differentiated tourist offer that highlights our wealth and landscape.”
The counselor concludes by saying that “this offer is accompanied by the great professional talent of the island that is part of the entire tourism value chain, as well as the excellent accommodation plant, everything together reinforces the tourism strategy in order to capture a profile of tourists that generate greater profitability in the destination”.
During the fair, the island representation will hold around thirty meetings with tour operators, hotel chains with interests in the island, travel agency networks, airlines and the media.
This is the case, among other national and international operators, of Viajes El Corte Inglés, Binter, British Airways, Aena, Ávoris, Smartwings, Iberia Express, Jet2, Easyjet or Ryanair.
Fitur will also be the scene of the signing of important agreements for the destination, as well as presentations related to the island, among which the launch and upcoming opening, in December 2024, of the Gran Hotel Taoro stands out, with which expectations are reopened to attract a quality customer profile to the accommodation facility in Puerto de la Cruz and to improve the possibilities of tourist profitability in the north of the island.
Likewise, the Ed Sheeran concert or the Tenerife Music Festival will be presented.
NATIONAL MARKET
According to Frontur data analyzed by the Tenerife Tourism Research department, the number of peninsular tourists entering the island until November 2023 (in the absence of definitive data for December) increased by 7.7 percent. compared to the previous year.
On the other hand, and according to Aena data prepared by Tenerife Tourism, in 2023, 2,098,083 passengers arrived at the destination from mainland airports, 10.6 percent more than in 2022, through 16 air connections.
Regarding the profile of the national traveler who visits Tenerife, and with data collected until September 2023, their average age is 37 years, six less than the average of tourists who spend their holidays on the island.
They have a family income of 45,074 euros (+2%); 85.7 percent carry out activities during their stay (four points above the average) and their satisfaction with the destination is 8.79 (+0.23%) points out of 10.
