Starting tomorrow, Monday the 22nd, the Fairgrounds will host the adult murgas competition of this edition of the Carnival. The contest, which is divided into three phases and a final, will have the participation of a total of 20 groups and this year it resumes the format of two songs in the phase and another two in the final.

The murgas in charge of performing in the first phase, which will start at 8:30 p.m., will be, in this order, Diabolicos, Trabachones, Burlonas, Desatadas, Trapaseros, Chinchosos and Desbocados. The first phase will also begin with a performance by Mamelones, a group awarded the third prize for Interpretation in the Children’s Murgas Contest. Next, each of the seven participating murgas will perform two songs on stage along with their presentation and farewell.

The Interpretation jury is made up of Carlos Ascander Burgos Pineda, musician; María Sabrina Lemus Carmenatti, singing teacher, composer, manager and vocal coach of international artists; José Alberto Hdez. Hdez., performer of Los Cantadores; Daida Reyes García, announcer, presenter and producer of TV programs; María Herrera Noda, editor of “Good morning, Canary Islands”, on RTVC; María Olarte Lecuona, new writer of “Intimate Stories from the Stage”; Alberto Delgado Jiménez, director and producer of cultural and musical events at Makáron; Juanito Panchín (Juan José Pérez García), comedian, and Norberto Trujillo (Bolaños), actor and acting teacher at the Lecuona School.

The Presentation jury is made up of Beatriz Eugenia Delgado Gaspar, graduate in Fine Arts and professor of the Graphic Design degree at the Fernando Estévez School of Art and Design; Anamig Francis Amador, Carnival costume designer, and Patricia Hodgson Ravina, Fine Arts graduate, painter and art curator.

The presentation of the three phases will be carried out by Emilia González and Eugenio González. Televisión Canaria will broadcast live both the three phases and the final of the 2024 Carnival Murgas Contest, scheduled for Friday the 26th at 8:30 p.m. The eight murgas best scored by the jury in the previous phases in the Interpretation section will attend.
