The Department of Works and Infrastructure of the La Laguna City Council has reopened to traffic this Friday, January 19, the Copernicus Street. This road, close to the area around the Vega park, was closed to vehicle traffic as a preventive measure by the Local Police, after a small sinkhole was detected in the road last week.
The Lagunero councilor responsible for the Area, Ángel Chinea, explained that after the incident, the road surface has been lifted to ensure that there were no major structural problems or incidents in the water supply pipes.
Once the good condition of these facilities was verified by Teidagua personnel, the pavement was cleaned for subsequent compaction and resurfacing.
The Lagunero Councilor for Works explained that this type of collapse can occur due to the wear and tear of time, the load of road traffic, the behavior of the clay present in the road and the lack of rain that provides the necessary humidity to the conglomerate of materials.
Ángel Chinea took the opportunity to thank the citizens affected by this traffic stop for their understanding, who have collaborated at all times with the workers in the area, and apologized for the inconvenience caused during the development of these emergency works.
The mayor also announced that new actions are planned for this year in this area of the municipality, focused mainly on improving sidewalks and other public infrastructure.
