Charter flights, a real objective. Travel in the best possible conditions and thus correct the very obvious effects of insularity already It is a purpose shared by the two main Canarian representativeswhose presidents Rivero and Ramírez held last Wednesday in Madrid a relevant meeting in this regard with the Minister of Territorial Policy, Ángel Víctor Torres.

The highest leader of the CD TenerifePaulino Rivero, traveled to the capital of Spain before yesterday morning, just a few hours after the painful defeat of the blue and white team against RCD Mallorca. The meeting with Torres served to put on the table different options for the island teams can resolve this historical difficulty with the intention that the solution arrives in the very short term.

During the meeting, which took place in a very cordial and constructive tone, The three leaders sought concrete results with the desire that the direct displacements for both representatives may occur throughout this season, coinciding with some key moves in the second round, for Las Palmas in the First Division and for Tenerife in the Second.

The yellow episode of Seville

In the case of the yellows, their very considerable income in the top category has allowed them to opt for this type of travel on more than one occasion. For example, to Seville in November, a trip that made the news because some players missed their plane and another had to be chartered at a very considerable cost (and which offers a slight approximation of the prohibitive rates that these flights reach due to many different factors, including the fuel price).

Tenerife and Las Palmas do not seek to obtain a competitive advantage in the management with the Ministry; quite the contrary, They are eager to resolve the proven effects that insularity has on their respective sporting results.. In fact, in the case of the blue and white team it was already a demand expressed at the time of UEFA by Jupp Heynckes. Layovers, short rest times and many other adverse circumstances not only cause fatigue and stress, they also encourage injuries.

The commitment that Rivero and Ramírez left from the meeting in Madrid on Wednesday –it is expected that there will be more meetings at the highest level– was that solutions will be explored so that some trips corresponding to the second round of the championship can be developed in this way.

To date, all the attempts made by Tenerife – the first with a specialized travel agency and the second, in the search for a multi-sponsorship – had given sterile results. Now, Heynckes’ old claim can be made a reality, but thirty years later and with Asier Garitano in the place that the German once occupied, who actively and passively requested (without any result) direct flights to the now deceased President Perez.
