The Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana Morant, guaranteed this Wednesday that in the next General State Budgets (PGE) an item of five million euros will once again be included to implement the National Volcanology Center in the Canary Islands to which the islands of Tenerife and La Palma.
In statements to journalists after attending the meeting of the Governing Council of the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands (IAC), he commented that this center “is a commitment” of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, following the last volcanic eruption on La Palma. .
The minister commented that the eruption made all the scientific organizations in Spain come to La Palma and do an “impeccable” and highly “coordinated” job and that she gave scientific advice “to those who made the decisions” which allowed, among other things, that there would be no loss of human life.
He has said that the management of the emergency in La Palma “was a great example” of how to contribute “from science” and that is why the Government does not want it to “remain as a memory” and now it is about “with cutting-edge technology “The results of the ‘Tajogaite’ volcano can be studied.
Morant has also pointed out that the future national center will work in coordination with the Government of the Canary Islands and the councils, and from the central Government it will contribute with experts from the IEO, the Igme, the IGN, the CSIC or the Aemet, plus the contributions from the Canarian public universities and Involcan.
“We want to replicate the Pevolca success story to do science,” he said.
