The general secretary of the PSOE Tenerife, Pedro Martín, declared this Wednesday that “it is good that Tenerife does not have the roads it has needed for decades and that the regional and island governments, with the PSOE, had made progress and that the Canarian Coalition is paralyzing.”
These words take place after the meeting held this Wednesday between Pedro Martín with a representation of the construction industry association, FEPECO, headed by Óscar Izquierdo, president of FEPECO together with the vice president, Diego Vega La-Roche and the vice president Olga Sanfiel . The spokesperson for the socialist group in the Tenerife Cabildo, Aarón Afonso, and counselor Marián Franquet also attended the meeting. For his part, Óscar Izquierdo assures that “the main problem that Tenerife has is that it is a stuck and collapsed island, with permanent queues in all areas at almost all hours. It is historic, it must be solved, because in addition to the implications it has on an economic and social level, it has psychosomatic repercussions on people, which is the most important thing to eradicate.”
According to the president of the construction association, “we must move from words to actions, from projects to the execution of work. From FEPECO, we ask everyone, the political class and civil society, for responsibility, to seek and reach agreements and the necessary consensus, which makes it possible to advance the projects necessary to have a complete, safe, sustainable and fast road network. Tenerife demands the definitive closure of the Insular Ring and that means putting out to tender the works that are pending and that have projects, because no more time can be wasted.”
“We appreciate the predisposition of Pedro Martín, providing acceptable proposals that serve to gain lost time, in order for Tenerife to be an island in the execution of public infrastructure works, which are the structural basis for the growth and development of the island” .
The PSOE Tenerife presented to the FEPECO representatives the projects that were ready in the previous legislature and that would solve the problem of traffic collapse on the island of Tenerife and that both the Minister of Public Works, Housing and Mobility, Pablo Rodríguez; such as the president of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Dávila; “they are leaving it in a drawer.”
In the case of the island of Tenerife, it is especially worrying that the president of the Cabildo Rosa Dávila has already shown her rejection of one of the most important and necessary works on the island, which is the La Laguna Bypass. A project that has been worked on in coordination with the technicians of both the La Laguna City Council and those of the Cabildo of Tenerife and the Government of the Canary Islands and that would be an important help to the long queues suffered by users of the TF-5.
With respect to the environmental impact report of the La Laguna Bypass, the PSOE Tenerife reported that on March 30, 2023, the contracting resolution for the study on birds required by the approved environmental evaluation was issued and that it was proceeding in a manner parallel to the awarding of the work, without it having to be delayed, so it will be the Government of the Canary Islands that explains what has happened with this matter. A work that already had 8 million euros allocated to start at the end of 2023 and that would allow more than 60,000 vehicles to be diverted from the 110,000 that enter La Laguna at the Guamasa point.
Another of the works whose layout and construction project was approved in the last mandate and ready to be put out to tender at the end of 2023 and that CC is paralyzing is the Gorgolana tunnel, which will accommodate the passage of more than 20,000 vehicles that is currently supporting Las Canteras, with the consequent environmental impact on the Anaga Massif.
Another of the works whose project was handed over to the CC-PP regional government is the stretch of road between San Juan de la Rambla and Icod, which will allow 30,000 cars of the 110,000 that enter La Laguna to go south through the closure of the Insular Ring.
With respect to the South of the island, the PSOE Tenerife emphasizes that it is essential to promote the Chafiras Oroteanda connection that, when Pedro Martín became president of the Cabildo, was stopped and denounced in court and that was managed to be resumed. In addition, we must promote the work of the Fañabé-Las Américas section, which is the first phase of several until reaching San Isidro, which are areas that also suffer significant queues.
Pedro Martín explained to the representatives of FEPECO that the socialist group in the Cabildo of Tenerife has presented several initiatives to guarantee that the Government of the Canary Islands continues to promote the road infrastructures of the island of Tenerife that are included in the Canary Islands-State Highway Agreement. 2018-2027, clearly marking that there are two priorities on the Island: the TF-5 Bypass in La Laguna and the Fañabé-Playa de las Américas tunnel, in addition to continuing to promote the two major works that the socialists left in motion in the previous mandate, Chafiras-Oroteanda and the section of the island ring between Santiago del Teide and El Tanque (the Erjos tunnel).
For the socialist group, the construction of these roads is necessary and urgent to unite Tenerife economically and socially and, thus, help solve the problem of queues on the island. Furthermore, he emphasizes that these works are already contemplated in the PIOT (Tenerife Island Planning Plan) and in the PTEOSVAM (Special Territorial Planning Plan for the Road System of the Metropolitan Area of Tenerife).
For this reason, the PSOE Tenerife insists that this work, which was already advanced and with budget allocations determined from the previous mandate, cannot be lost because the citizens of the island of Tenerife deserve modern, safe road infrastructure adapted to the population. current.
