The residents of La Quinta ask for an end to 40 years without public lighting

The deputy of the Common, Rafael Yanes, met yesterday with representatives of the Neighborhood Association of La Quinta de Chimaque, in Santa Úrsula, who informed him that the current situation of the 2,000 residents of this urbanization is serious due to the increase in insecurity in the area, which has been without public lighting for 40 years.
The president of the Association, José Andrés Pérez, stated that the problems of infrastructure and services that have been experienced for 40 years in the urbanization known as La Quinta Vieja and for 15 years in La Quinta Nueva remain unremedied, especially the lack of Street lighting.
For this reason, the association asks the deputy of the Common to mediate between the City Council, the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo of Tenerife, the public company of the Government of the Canary Islands Gestur and the neighbors “to try to reach a five-way agreement so that “Once and for all, this issue will be resolved.”
The neighborhood representatives assured that both the regional government and the Cabildo have already expressed their willingness to participate in a dialogue table. “Given the lack of communication with the City Council, we once again turn to the Common Deputy so that he can mediate,” they stated.
In this sense, it is worth remembering that they had already done so in June 2022 to denounce the “municipal abandonment” of the City Council, to which until that moment they had submitted, without success, more than 60 documents.

Two urbanization projects

For his part, the Common deputy assures that the public company Gestur reported that, throughout this month, the two urbanization projects and the declarations of non-compliance will be presented to the City Council for approval, which are prerequisites for the forced execution of works.
The neighbors do not stop their fight to improve the security of the 2,000 people who live in La Quinta. In mid-December they held a meeting with the subdelegate of the Government in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Jesús Javier Plata, and the head of the Civil Guard, who expressed their willingness to increase the presence of troops in the night zone.
