The family of Dr. Pedro de las Casas Alonso (1931-2011), physician and author of books about the history of Adeje, has donated a significant bibliographic collection to the Municipal Archive of the Adejero City Council. This valuable legacy includes books on Canary Islandsa 19th-century encyclopedia and archival material, mainly newspaper clippings addressing the history of Adeje.
Pedro de las Casas Alonso was doctor of Medicine, prestigious doctor specializing in Digestive Pathology, master in Digestive Endoscopy, head of the Digestive System Service at the University Hospital of the Canary Islands, professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of La Lagunahonorary member of the College of Physicians of Tenerifecandidate for the Senate for the Tenerife Group, president of the Adeje local committee of the Popular Party and historical researcher of Adeje. Among his books are La Casa Fuerte, el Gobierno y la Iglesia according to his archives; Adeje: Lights and twilights in their future; o Walking with Añique through the past of Adeje.
The mayor of Adeje, José Miguel Rodríguez Fragatogether with the Councilor for Historical Heritage, Desiderio Afonso Ruiz, received the family for the signing of the donation certificate in the noble hall of the Convent. In his statements, the mayor highlighted “the importance of the legacy of Dr. Pedro De las Casas for the understanding of the history of Adeje and the Canary Islands.” He thanked the family for the “altruistic” gesture in making available to neighbors this set of books and files that are already available in the municipal archive for consultation.
The family expressed their gratitude to the City Council for accepting the donation, highlighting the pride they feel in having their father’s bibliographic collections available for consultation in the municipal archive of his esteemed town. The statements were offered by the sons and daughters of Pedro de las Casas Alonso: Pedro, Isabel, Beatriz, Daniel and Alejandro.

This valuable bibliographic and documentary collection, now part of the municipal heritage, offers a new window to explore the history of Adeje and the Canary Islands. The donation reflects the commitment of Dr. Pedro de las Casas to the community, who, throughout his life, stood out as a doctor, a pioneer in medical technology, and contributed significantly to the social and cultural development of Adeje.
Carmen Lucía Rodríguez highlighted the importance of this documentary incorporation, stating that “this valuable collection will enrich our collections and will help academic research and citizens to more deeply explore the rich history of Adeje and the Canary Islands». “The management of the archive is committed to preserving and making this heritage available for present and future generations,” concludes the mayor.
