Yesterday, Los Realejos once again launched the annual calendar of Canary Islands pilgrimages in Tigaiga with its particular commemoration in honor of San Antonio Abad. The events began with mass at one in the afternoon in the hermitage of La Concepción, sung by the Guayansanta Folkloric Group. Next, the pilgrimage walk began where folkloric groups and improvised parties accompanied the image of the saint among decorated carts and pivas. In this endearing reunion with popular culture, which Tigaiga has celebrated since the nineties of the last century, there was no shortage of good gastronomy and wines from the region. As usual, at the end of the pilgrimage route, the blessing of the livestock and pets took place. In the afternoon there was a popular dance by the Arguayo Band orchestra. The neighbors made the traditional arch of heather, fruits and vegetables at the entrance to the hermitage of La Concepción.
“In Tigaiga, the drive and neighborhood communion stand out to carry out different festive and ethnographic events of royal seal each year, which add to the extensive calendar of celebrations of our municipality, where this early pilgrimage in honor of San Antonio Abad is a faithful event. every January to where all the eyes of lovers of popular Canarian traditions will turn,” highlighted the mayor of Los Realejos, Adolfo González.
