The starting signal for one of the most anticipated festivals in the city could not be left last night without its traditional anthem: the popular song Santa Cruz en Carnaval, whose lyrics are due to the author Agustín Ramos, whom the public presented at the opening gala, held on the outdoor terrace of the capital’s Fairgrounds, gave strong and warm applause.
The famous song, without which the Santa Cruz Carnival cannot be conceived, celebrates 50 years of history of tatareos among chicharreros of all generations. And, for this reason, the inaugural gala was used to present its renewed version in a more modern format, but without losing its endearing essence.
In the voices of such well-known singers as El Morocho, Claritzel, David Amador and Jean Ramos, the new Santa Cruz en Carnaval served as a tribute to its composer and, therefore, to all the carnival fans who have sung and danced it for half a century. life.
In this sense, the councilor of the Autonomous Body of Festivals and Recreational Activities (Oafar) of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, Javier Caraballero, explained to DIARIO DE AVISOS that “the new version of this well-known Santa Cruz song in Carnival, which is the anthem of our city’s festival, turns 50 and, therefore, we wanted to pay a small tribute to its creator, Agustín Ramos, who has been invited to the inaugural gala.”
The mayor indicated that “a more modern twist has been given to the song thanks to the work of Guillermo Lupion, a producer from Santa Cruz de Tenerife who is well known internationally, who spends more than half of his time working for great artists in Miami, and that we have been fortunate to be able to count on their experience and professionalism in this Carnival, leaving the production of this well-known theme in their hands.”
In this regard, Caraballero stressed that “the song is, in addition, a journey through each and every one of the styles that the original Santa Cruz in Carnival has had since its beginnings, when it was played by Billo’s Caracas Boys, until reaching a super point. urban with which the letter ends.”
To this end, the new version of the carnival song was performed last night by four Canarian singers, a cast of artists who over the years have also been closely linked to the Chicharerra party.
The gala
Likewise, the area councilor stressed that “choosing the opening gala for this presentation was the most appropriate, since we have delved into a television program, which is the theme of this year’s Carnival, and this song, along with the musical overture so beautiful in that a review of the different famous TV contests has been made, it was ideal. I just hope the public liked it.”
The opening gala of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival, the first official event of the chicharrera festival, brought together a large audience.
A total of 958 seats were distributed last night by the Autonomous Festival Organization to accommodate spectators, who accessed the seats by invitation, distributed among relatives and designers of the participating candidates, sponsors and until full capacity with the general public.
Attendees who, wearing their best clothes, entered into an open-air show, and with the Auditorium of Tenerife as a backdrop, in which the Carnival and, above all, the 32 aspiring Queens in its three modalities – children’s, of the elderly and adults -, became the great protagonists of a night of partying.
