Last night, Santa Cruz de Tenerife entered the official start of Carnival 2024, dedicated this year to Television. And he did it in a big way, with a dynamic and very musical inaugural gala, directed by Jep Meléndez, which took the almost 1,000 people gathered on the outside terrace of the capital’s Fairgrounds to travel to the ins and outs of the television universe.

A visual walk, on a stage like a TV set, in which through famous programs and contests that have been recorded in the nostalgic memory of viewers, they invited them to remember such popular air spaces as 1, 2, 3 , The clowns on TV and even the characteristic donut from Pasapalabra. A walk through mythical contests that served for the 32 aspiring Queens, in their three modalities, to tempt their luck and find out the order of participation they will have in their respective galas, scheduled for January 28 (children’s), January (seniors) and February 7 (adult).

A tremendous overture in which music and, above all, a desire for fun gave way to the presenter of the show, Wendy Fuentes, in charge of conducting this first event of the Chicharrero Carnival, who entered the stage accompanied by the councilor Guacimara Díaz.

“And TV at Carnival is another vibe, between laughter, long nights and something else. Tenerife begins this madness, flooding the Carnival with its rhythm,” announced this singing television ruler from the stage to proceed to start the Carnival engines with more harmony and under the multicolored chords of the Tenerife troupes.

Rhythm and harmony with which the parade of all the aspiring Queens gave way, wrapped in the brilliant effect of fireworks, to welcome a unique Carnival, an international benchmark, full of enthusiasm, quality and fun.

Next, the presenter greeted the mayor of the city, José Manuel Bermúdez, and the Councilor for Festivals, Javier Caraballero. The councilor pointed out that “there is a lot of desire for Carnival” and announced that among the artists invited to the party this year, apart from Luis Fonsi, José Fonseca will also perform.

After the mayor’s words, the presenters of the Children’s Queen’s gala, Jorge and Sergio, were met, after whom the drawing began for the starting order of the thirteen candidates for the scepter of the smallest sovereign. A wheel of fortune that, on this occasion, and under the name of Pasa-a-la-gala, served for the girls to reveal behind the letters the final number with which they will go out to parade. The first will be Aridian Mendoza León.

Then it was the turn of the eight candidates for Queen of the Elders, accompanied by the presenters of this event, Petite Lorena and David García. The carnival ladies chose their starting order among the famous rupertas. The first to parade will be María Isabel García García.

Finally, and with the fortune panel game, it was the turn of the 11 adult candidates, who arrived preceded by Eloísa González and Elvis Sanfiel, the presenters of this gala.

The opening ceremony of the Carnival was broadcast live last night on Televisión Canaria for the entire Archipelago, a spectacle of glamor and color that left us wanting more.
