It is the philosophy of Ponos Fashion Projectinitiative of Tenerife Council which proposes to cross, through specific training, the supply, the workforce of young people from 18 to 35 years oldwith the demand, according to the needs of the companies, of the textile sector and accessories or others related. The program includes 25 scholarships to connect participants with design firms. It offers, on the one hand, a preparation itinerary and, on the other, it encourages entrepreneurship in the sector. The project is resumed after a time in “fallow” within the idea of recovery of the textile and fashion sector that the island government of CC and wants to promote. Efraín Medina explained that the program “will train and support participants to facilitate their entrepreneurship and connect them with companies in the world of fashion.” The counselor, a staunch defender of the island’s textile sector for decades, says: “We want to act as a link between the people who are being trained and the companies, which will have no costs, to facilitate their job placement.” Serafín Mesa, for his part, indicated that Ponos Moda “is aimed in principle” at three segments: young people with Higher Cycle training in the professional family of textiles, clothing and leather; emerging artists who want to orient themselves professionally towards fashion and companies in the sector that wish to participate in the training and support of young scholarship holders. The program offers vocational guidance and support, scholarships, networking, fashion events, entrepreneurship itinerary and Corporate Social Responsibility commitments.
Characteristics
The duration of the Ponos scholarships will be three to four months with a working day of 30 hours per week (six a day). They contemplate an aid package of 700 gross euros per month. The requirements to be beneficiaries are to participate in the insertion itinerary, be between 18 and 35 years old, be a resident in Tenerife and have training that is binding on the job they want to apply for with the scholarship. If the company has a job board, it will be disseminated through the program and visits can also be organized. Ponos Moda seeks the commitment of companies in the textile sector, traditional clothing artisans and creators of the Carnival to welcome the scholarship recipients and collaborate in their training to fulfill their social commitment.
Calendar
The project began in November of last year with prior meetings. Both with fashion companies from Tenerife and other regions interested in Social Responsibility. Now, in January, the dissemination is carried out and agreements are closed. From there, vocational guidance, entrepreneurship itineraries, scholarships and related events will begin until September. The Cabildo of Tenerife launched the Ponos program in 2021. It serves around 3,000 young people per year and includes 300 scholarships. Its headquarters are located in Santa Cruz, La Laguna, Candelaria, Arona, Guía de Isora, Los Realejos and Santa Úrsula. The aid would allow young people to work in associated companies for a period of up to five months.
