The Government of the Canary Islands has activated the pre-alert for the appearance of pellets in Tenerife. On the coast of Low tide An anomalous concentration of these microplastics has been detected, which have their origin in the spill of a cargo ship in Portugal. The head of Civil Protection and Emergency Response in the Islands, Montserrat Román, explained in a press conference that the pre-alert is completely preventive and the conditions do not exist to activate a higher phase. The objective, she has said, is to delimit the situation: to locate the origin of this spill and assess its dimension. Experts have ruled out the relationship between these pellets and the spill that affects Galicia.
