SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Jan. 11 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo of Tenerife will invest 1.4 million euros (1,452,970.17 euros) in the construction of the new waste collection points in Los Rodeos (La Laguna) and Arico to facilitate selective waste collection for citizens free of charge.
The infrastructure is 90% financed through the Next Generation EU Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and is in the bidding phase.
The deadline for submitting offers for the construction of the Los Rodeos clean point ends on January 29, while for Arico it will end on January 30, and the execution period for both is eight months.
The Minister of Natural Environment, Sustainability and Security and Emergencies, Blanca Pérez, explains in a note that “with these two new clean points, the Cabildo’s commitment to improve waste management on the island is reinforced.”
In his opinion, “we are talking about infrastructure for the selective collection of some fractions of urban waste.”
In this sense, Pérez clarifies that “they are intended mainly for household and similar waste that is not collected by municipal collection services and are free of charge for individuals, thus expanding the fractions of waste that can be recycled.”
For his part, the insular director of Waste, Alejandro Molowny, explains that “the clean points of Los Rodeos and Arico are added to those that are already in operation, which are those of Adeje, Arona, Güímar, Buenavista, Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Jagua), La Laguna (Taco), La Guancha and La Orotava”.
Molowny also recalls that since January “the hours of the existing clean points have been extended, so that they are also open on Mondays – previously they were operational from Tuesday to Sunday – in order to continue increasing selective collection and facilitating recycling”.
