SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Jan. 10 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The agents and units of the Local Police of La Laguna have carried out a round of inspections through a dozen bazaars and sales outlets in the municipality and have seized almost 900 products in the form of perfumes and pyrotechnic material that could contain substances harmful to the health and are prohibited by the European Union.
The European Union classifies the compound Butylphenyl Methylpropional (Lilial) as a CMR substance, since it can cause carcinogenic, mutagenic or reproductive toxic effects.
This element is what has been registered in some seized cosmetic products, according to a note from the council.
For her part, the Councilor for Citizen Security, Cristina Ledesma, explained that a total of ten minutes and reports related to these inspections have been prepared and announced that this work plan will continue in the coming weeks in different neighborhoods and centers of the municipality.
Once the material has been analyzed, it will be destroyed or returned to the establishments, if it complies with European regulations.
“This first phase of inspections has coincided with the Christmas holiday period, in which purchases of these products increase,” explained the mayor, who also recalled that there is a regulation that prohibits the sale of pyrotechnic material to minors, an aspect in which has also been influenced during the development of these actions.
