VALVERDE (EL HIERRO), Jan. 10 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Guardamar Concepción Arenal has rescued a total of 16 migrants who were sailing aboard a canoe that was sighted by a sailboat on Tuesday afternoon about 124 miles south of Gran Canaria, Maritime Rescue sources inform Europa Press.
The rescue began after 5:00 p.m. and until the arrival of the Rescue vessel, the merchant ship ‘Avax’ was in charge of the custody of the canoe.
The 16 migrants, all men and of sub-Saharan origin, were transferred to the port of La Restinga, in El Hierro, where they disembarked around 8:40 a.m. and were treated by the health team.
