All political forces represented in the plenary session of the Tacoronte City Council (PSOE, CC, PP, NC, Somos Tacoronte, Vox), except Sí Se Podemos, voted in favor of the support proposal promoted by the Neighborhood Platform of the TF- 5 to request changes and improvements in the future expansion project of the Northern Highway as it passes through the municipality.
The text, presented urgently and approved in the last ordinary session, held days ago, includes as notable objectives to join forces and demand real improvements that urge the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo of Tenerife to change the road communications model and of transportation, adapting it to the ongoing projects that affect the TF-5 and, therefore, the municipality. The initiative was presented and defended by the first deputy mayor and councilor responsible for Mobility and Transport, Noemí García.
Thus, the Consistory and the platform ask both administrations to study, among other issues, the viability of applying reversible lanes on the supramunicipal roads between Tacoronte and Los Rodeos, and measures to control vehicle capacity in urban centers based on criteria of license plate numbers and days of the week.
Through the aforementioned agreed document, it is requested that new roads not be built and that, if necessary, they be built underground, tunneled or at height, especially in those sections with greater environmental value such as El Reventón.
The parties also request mobility improvements for El Torreón and Los Naranjeros, with direct access and implementation of roundabouts on the TF-152, and that the connection between the neighborhoods located on both sides of the highway be guaranteed. In this sense, an aerial pedestrian walkway is suggested that connects the Luz neighborhood, where the Piedra de Torres and Nuevo Laurel roads converge, with the stretch of road that connects with the TF-152.
Taxis and buses
The editorial highlights the request to carry out a study of the number of taxi licenses per municipality and, if necessary, activate a process to rescue them to make work in that public transport sector viable. Likewise, it is requested that another be developed in order to create an urban bus service that reaches the most remote neighborhoods, or do so jointly with neighboring municipalities and request a preferential stop for long-distance lines, as well as for the future expansion of the tram and the northern train, accompanied by car parking.
Regarding the expansion of the third lane for public transport, the two parties consider that “partial expropriations that encourage the result of residual plots with difficult resolution for territorial planning should not be dealt with.”
The possible implementation of the BUS-VAO, when the works on the TF-5 variant projects in La Laguna and the closure of the Island Ring are carried out, is also integrated into the portfolio of proposals that, from now on, they will defend en bloc both the City Council and the Neighborhood Platform.
