The La Laguna City Council has decided to discard the idea of the museumization of Casa Anchieta and is considering new options for the use of this 16th century building located in the area of Plaza del Adelantado and declared BIC, as confirmed by the Heritage Councilor , Adolfo Cordobés. “Finally, the Government group of this mandate has ruled out the project to museum the Casa Anchieta. We understand that the space offers other options more in line with the property,” said the mayor.

In this sense, he explained that, “among other alternatives, we are considering the possibility that it could house the headquarters of La Laguna entities linked to the city’s heritage and the figure of Father Anchieta,” although he noted that “there is still no decision.” about”.

The musealization project that was being worked on aimed to convert this property into an interpretation center for the figure of the Lagunero saint José de Anchieta, better known as Father Anchieta.

The decision to discard this project comes after the completion in these days of the last works that were missing in the rehabilitation of the building, so the reception of the property is scheduled for the second half of this month, according to municipal sources.

Regarding the work that was being carried out, they involved painting works to unify the entire color of the property, the review of the carpentry and the placement of information plaques inside, thus following the indications made at the time by the Historical Heritage Commission of the Cabildo.

It is worth remembering that the City Council began, at the beginning of 2021, the rehabilitation work on Casa Anchieta, with a budget of 710,000 euros and the expectation of having it completed in about seven months, although technical and logistical difficulties encountered during the works and other Issues have forced the project to be modified, which has lengthened the deadlines. The work on the property has allowed it to be rehabilitated and adapted to accessibility regulations, but without damaging its architectural values.
