The extraordinary plenary session of the Adeje City Council approved yesterday with the votes of PSOE, which governs with an absolute majority, the budget for this year, which amounts to 115 million euros. With an increase of 8% compared to 2023 and a slight increase in expense chapters, the main objective of the adejeras accounts is maintain the level of investment in plots as important as essential public services, attention to citizens and the most vulnerable groups, and the execution of actions to improve public spaces and infrastructure. The opposition groups (CC, PP, UP and VOX) abstained from the vote.
After two years in which the City Council addressed a high level of investments, which resulted in the acquisition of properties or spaces intended to house new municipal services or infrastructure, this year it intends to begin the development of these projects and their planning. This means “a substantial improvement”, as the mayor points out, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, in aspects as important as care for the elderly – through an expansion of the residence space with more beds and services –, the adaptation of a building that also has to do with care for the elderly, the Community Wellbeing or Social Cohesion; the improvement and expansion of the Municipal Music School, to accommodate the Musical Board Band and the Folklore School Group; a new space designed for the Adeje Agromarket and the tradition center; or new green areas and parking in strategic places.
Some “realistic” accounts
José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga emphasizes that «We are obliged to implement realistic budgets that adjust to the citizens and their needs, without forgetting that most of the spending will be maintained on the pillars that have defined our policies in recent decades, such as the care of the people who need it most, culture, education or sport.
The Adeje Government points out that this Budget reflects that public accounts are gradually returning to normal after the years of pandemic in which the rules were suspended with the aim of alleviating the crisis. In that sense, he details that the City Council must also face the increase in prices of services such as the light and water, which represents a significant increase in spending.

Another section by which the accounts have been characterized in recent years is the maintenance of social care, beyond the consequences caused by covid. In this way, the Adeje City Council consolidates items in that area intended to continue with home help, job placement or care programs for people at risk of exclusionincreasing the department’s budget by almost 5% to exceed 1.6 million euros.
“We continue to project the Adeje of the future, a municipality in constant evolution and transformation that must adapt to the new demands and needs of citizens,” says the mayor, for whom, however, “people continue to be the main objectives in our budget.” “Those who need the most help, the most vulnerable groups, culture or support for education and the youngest.”
Precisely in education, culture or sports the high level of spending remains in terms of scholarships for students, transportation aid and projects such as the Adeje Summer University or the programming of the Auditorium. All investment in these concepts is increased by up to 15% to exceed 8.5 million euros for all these areas.
The expansion of the Music School, the improvement and expansion of the Municipal Nursery and the creation of the Traditions Center These are three other examples of budget increases. The school expands its accounts by 28% and new items are implemented for the nursery and the traditions center. Likewise, a significant improvement will be carried out in the Comprehensive Domestic Animal Shelter Center, which will see its facilities and services improved.
The tourist games
Tourism maintains its main expenditure in promotion of the destination, improvement of infrastructure and implementation of intelligence programs and improvement of services. Another area that increases its budget is Economic Development, with projects to support small and medium commerce, entrepreneurship and the primary sector.

Also noteworthy is the 10% increase, with almost 4 million euros, in the promotion programs of the employment and the training of workers. The municipal government of Adeje continues to commit to the digital and ecological transition, with significant items to consolidate projects that are already very advanced such as the Adeje DTI, a smart municipality, which reinforces services and improves their efficiency.
The councilor responsible for the preparation of the budgets, the deputy mayor Epifanio Díaz Hernández, He assured that this budget is “a job that gives us the security and rigor that the municipality is healthy, it complies with all the economic parameters set by higher administrations.” Díaz Hernández added that “we achieved this stability and seriousness without giving up the high level of public services to which we have historically been responding in our municipality.”
