He La Laguna City Councilthrough the Department of Municipal Servicesreports this Saturday that the damage caused by the burning of containers in the municipality During the year 2023 they added a total of 29,654 euros.
This was indicated by the second deputy mayor and councilor for the Municipal Services area, Fran Hernández.
In total, during the past year 29 containers burned in different locations of the municipality: 17 municipal solid waste containers, 15 with a capacity of 3,200 liters and 2 with a capacity of 800 liters; 3 packaging; 4 paper and cardboard, 3,200 liters; 1 portable chemical toilet and 4 800 liter containers.
To these damages we must also add the cost of the fire extinguishing work of the Fire Services, states a note from the council.
Fran Hernández clarified that the deposits have already been replaced, but this entails an economic outlay for the City Council.
Furthermore, he pointed out that the population is often unaware of what this type of vandalism entails, which is paid for with public money, and appealed to the responsibility and awareness of the population, as well as their involvement to warn, report and identify their authorship.
“Not only because of the economic damage caused, but because of the risk it poses to vehicles parked in the area, as well as to the facades of adjacent buildings and homes. A risk for citizens and for material and real estate assets, which can lead to greater damage,” she asserted.
On the same ‘New Year’s’ night, for example, two waste deposits burned.
For Hernández, this is an issue of concern and it is a priority to promote actions to eradicate this problem.
“We have already held a meeting to assess this matter and analyze the adoption of measures to put an end to these uncivil and criminal behaviors that also represent an ecological attack, since the toxic substances released during the combustion of a waste container are harmful both for the environment, as well as for people,” he explained.
In his opinion, “it is not about generating alarm, but about raising awareness and involving the population in this matter that affects us all, together with the surveillance work of security personnel.”
