The Board of Social Services of the Arona City Council organizes the Solidarity Campaign ‘One Toy, One Smile’, an initiative that began in 2009 when a group of staff from the Municipal Board of Social Services decided to voluntarily join together and carry out a campaign with the aim that no minor, member of the families using the Social Services of the Municipality of Arona who are in a difficult economic situation, would be left without a gift on Three Kings Day.
Every year we try to improve this supportive initiative and expand its objectives. This is how the development of the Campaign as we know it today arose and which has been developed since 2016 with the use of ‘Gift Card’. This Christmas 2023-24, with the collaboration of companies, City Council staff and individuals, all the proposals made by the different Social Work Units and Minors’ Teams have been covered. Specifically, the Board of Social Services has sent these Gift Cards to 186 families, with a total of 320 minors proposed for this campaign.
Ruth Guacimara Martín, Councilor for Social Services of the Arona City Council, highlighted that “this year, the ‘One Toy, One Smile’ Solidarity Campaign has been a success. From the Board of Trustees we want to support families with minors, users of Municipal Social Services, in purchasing gifts for Three Kings Day. Also, raise awareness in society, promoting solidarity among citizens. Without forgetting, the excitement of the minors, despite the situation that each family unit may be experiencing, on a day as important as that of the Three Wise Men.”
