SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Jan. 5 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo of Tenerife, through the Historical Heritage area, has allocated a total of 124,036.54 euros for the restoration of the English organ, Bevington & Sons (1858), located in the Cathedral of Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios in La Laguna.
The island director of Historical Heritage, Isabel de Esteban, highlighted the importance of preserving this type of historical pieces and recalled that “instruments such as musical organs represent very unique pieces of movable art of religious heritage, which require delicate work of restoration, which justifies the establishment of a specific line of action for them”.
The subsidy that will allow the restoration of the aforementioned piece is determined by the signing of a collaboration agreement with the Bishopric of Tenerife, which will be in charge of commissioning the recovery and restoration work.
The subsidy will be distributed in two annual installments: 33,202.10 euros for the purposes of 2023 and 90,834.44 euros in 2024.
Among the objectives contemplated for this aid for the restoration of ancient musical organs of cultural value, the following stand out: to contribute to promoting the creation of employment linked to the dissemination of the values referred to as goods; promote the creation of jobs in a sector as specialized as the restoration of movable property and generate alternative uses, apart from the liturgical use, in churches and temples, by organizing musical events, generating new attractions for the population and tourism.
