Candelaria This century has been selling large projects, which, for various reasons, not all of them attributable to City hallhave not seen the light, despite being presented with great fanfare, up to three times, the rehabilitation of the Plaza de la Patrona -from the Cabildo-, adding to the fact that the 2008 crisis left the completion of the Punta Larga beach without 20 million euros or the cumbersome file for the 2015 indoor pool, which ended up in court. Now, in 2024, the municipality aims to see many infographics converted into works.
Thus, the Councilor for Culture, Manuel González, declared a few weeks ago that the Candelaria Auditorium would be completed in 2026, given that “it is not a very complex work.” At least it already has 7.5 million from the Cabildo for an execution budget of 9,321,292.05 euros. The drafting of the project by the City Council has an amount of 164,815 euros.
The total area to be built will be 4,561.12 square meters, in the old bus station on Rambla Los Menceyes. The auditorium will be located on the ground floor, with a main room for 500 spectators with its stage box. In addition, it will have a music school with listening classrooms and rehearsal rooms. It will have parking for 40 vehicles and other services: rehearsal room (capacity for 48 people), dressing rooms, technical control room, among others.
“The construction of the Candelaria Auditorium will cover a historical demand from the municipality’s groups, especially the bands that require a space more in line with their current characteristics,” says the mayor, Mari Brito.

Patron Square
The rehabilitation project for Plaza de la Patrona began to take shape in 2000, but was not presented until 2011, remaining on the shelf until it was rectified – underground parking was ruled out – and another project came out in 2022, which seems the ultimate. It was then that the Cabildo gave the green light to the call for the competition to carry out the remodeling in May 2023 and it is expected that the works can begin this year. The budget for the works increases by five million compared to the initial one due to inflation, up to 19 million euros.
The work will be carried out in three phases, the first being the promenade, of 3,431 square meters; The second corresponds to the Plaza de la Patrona, of 13,640 square meters, and the third will be the Plaza de los Artesanos, of 2,354 square meters. The project also includes undertaking the improvement of hydraulic pipelines and sanitation. The total area affected is 19,425 square meters and the financing is multi-year. In total, the budget is divided into 1,662,000 euros from last year; 8,533,655 euros to spend on this; 7,915,980 euros will be used in 2025, and the remaining 918,313 euros in 2026.

Pool
The new project – the 2015 project was canceled – includes two swimming pools (multipurpose pool and teaching pool), a gym, changing rooms and a parking lot with capacity for 59 vehicles, to which the outdoor spaces must be added. . All this with a final budget that is estimated to be greater than five million euros. The proposal details that the pool area is conceived as an open space with two pools, one for swimming measuring 25.00 x 12.50 meters and another for teaching measuring 10.25 x 12.50 meters.
The upper floor is specifically intended for the cardio weight training area, with fixed equipment and rooms for directed activities without equipment.

Clinic
The new location of the health center and regional emergency center would be located in what is known as Huertas de Don Pablo, very close to the roundabout at the entrance to the town center and next to the TF-1, a land for which it had initially been planned. projected a regional security center. This change of location, with the substantial modification of the PGO, was approved by the plenary session last week. The change would mean that the current two-story building located just behind the City Hall would be transferred by Health to expand the current City Hall offices there.

Tenerife Tour
One of the most degraded places in Candelaria, the old Tenerife Tour hotel, closed since 2011, will give way to an expansion area of Las Caletillas, made up of a residential part and a commercial part, which includes a Mercadona supermarket and what is most interesting to the candelarieros: the extension of the promenade, with a plaza and a terrace-viewpoint.
