SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, December 29. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Socialist Group in the Tenerife Cabildo has demanded that the president of the Corporation, Rosa Dávila, give explanations about a video where the youtuber David Cánovas Martínez, known as ‘TheGrefg’, calls the insular director of the Environment, Pedro, a ‘capo’ Millán, for having opened the Cable Car while it was closed to carry a permit in hand for this well-known influencer to climb to the peak of Teide on November 23.
The spokesperson for the Socialist Group, Aarón Afonso, has stated that given the facts known through social networks and the media, they have waited for “the president herself to publicly explain what happened for the island director to break the rules.” and made the Cable Car operate for a purpose such as accompanying this person to the peak of Teide without having the authorization required of any person who accesses this area”.
“However, neither the president nor the Tenerife Cabildo have commented on the matter. In fact, it is striking that in several journalistic reports what is said is that the Cabildo has not wanted to give explanations on the matter,” said Aarón Afonso, who stressed that it is “unacceptable” that “the person who is in the Cabildo precisely with the task of enforcing environmental regulations is the one who skips them.”
For all this, the Socialist Group hopes that the president will give the corresponding explanations and take the measures that up to 14 environmental and ecologist groups have already requested in a public statement. To do this, it will request an extraordinary plenary session for Rosa Dávila to give explanations about the authorization granted to ‘TheGrefg’ to climb the peak of Teide, at the same time that it will request a written statement from the Cable Car Health and Safety Committee to assess the use. of the installation under an adverse weather situation.
For the Socialist Group, “it is very serious to convey to public opinion that one can break the rules and to talk about how in Tenerife there are ‘bosses’ in public entities, referring to Pedro Millán, who help break the rules. But much more serious is that Mrs. Rosa Dávila allows these behaviors.” Given these events, the Socialist Group hopes that Pedro Millán himself will present his resignation or that, where appropriate, it will be the president of the Cabildo who dismisses him.
The PSOE Tenerife also wanted to express its total rejection of the president of the Cabildo “opening the Cable Car only for this man.” They remember that it was closed because the necessary safety conditions were not met, thus putting the lives of the service workers at risk. Furthermore, the irregularity that implies that the YouTuber climbed the peak of Teide without having completed the corresponding procedure in a timely manner and that Pedro Millán himself carried the corresponding permit “in hand.” “This privileged treatment is not given to the rest of the people of Tenerife,” adds the opposition party.
