The controversy of the influencer on Teide

David Cánovas published a video on social networks in which he appears taking an excursion to Teide on November 23, a day in which he went up to the peak on the cable car when it was out of service for the public and accompanied by the insular director of Natural Environment.

He PSOE requests an extraordinary plenary session so that the president of the Council, Rosa Davilaexplain access to Teide by David Cánovas, youtuber known as TheGrefg, accompanied by the insular director of the Natural Environment, Pedro Millán, using the cable car one day, November 23, when the facility was inoperative for security reasons. The island Government denies that there was any irregularity in this, based on reports from the area of Natural Environment, Sustainability, Security and Emergencies.

Pedro Martin and Aarón Afonso, president and spokesperson of the Insular Socialist Group, respectively, cite a video in which the youtuber TheGrefg calls the insular director a boss because He facilitated the commissioning of the cable car “while it was closed” and gave him “a permit in hand” to climb to the summit of Teide.

Aarón Afonso justified the request for the extraordinary plenary session in the absence of explanations from the president of the Cabildo and the company that manages the cable car, Rosa Dávila, who was asked to report “what happened for the island director to skip the rules and operate the cable car for a task such as accompanying this person to the peak of Teide, without having the authorization that is required of any person. Afonso considered it “unacceptable that the person who is in the Cabildo precisely with the task of enforcing environmental regulations is the one who ignores them,” referring to Millán.

The PSOE will also request the written statement from the Cable Car Health and Safety Committee to evaluate the use of the facility under an adverse climatic situation.

Martín and Afonso hope that “Pedro Millán will present his resignation or that, where appropriate, the president of the Cabildo will be the one to dismiss him” given the seriousness of what happened, from their perspective. The socialists insisted on expressing their “total rejection” of the cable car “opening only for this man (…) thus putting the lives of the service operators at risk”, they criticized that the authorization to the youtuber was granted without prior procedure. necessary and to deliver it “by hand.” “This privileged treatment is not given to the rest of Tenerife.”

The answer

The island Government explained this Friday that The climb to the peak of Teide by youtuber TheGrefg “was authorized and under the knowledge of the Teide National Park Directorate”. He assured that an Environment agent accompanied the insular director of Natural Environment, Pedro Millán, “at all times.” Regarding the lack of authorization argued by the PSOE, he recalled that “no official or public office responsible for the management of Teide needs authorization and, as on previous occasions, may accompany other people on the climb to the peak for reasons of island interest. as long as it does not exceed the established load capacity limit. He denies that the Cabildo staff or the insular director incurred any irregularityas “the reports from the Natural Environment, Sustainability, Security and Emergencies area show.”

The Cabildo government defends its actions based on the Natural Environment reports

On November 23, the cable car was subject to “maintenance work” and “several trips were made that, in no case, occurred outside its operational limits.” The decision to “not open to the public” was based on “a possible change in wind conditions”, although “they were within the range suitable for moving the cabin safely, so it was authorized to transport people , as reported by those responsible for security at the facility.

Finally, the Cabildo government maintains that «a personal video made for light consumption on social networks does not represent any evidence of irregularity by a public administration which, on the other hand, strives every day to preserve our natural spaces. “The language and colloquial tone used by David Cánovas are typical of social networks and are still a responsibility of the author to which the Cabildo is unrelated.”
