Since this week, La Orotava has the first public electric charging points for vehicles. The network will be extended to different areas of the municipality, as announced by the mayor, Francisco Linares. The initiative is framed within the objectives included in the recently approved Municipal Mobility Plan, in such a way that sustainable mobility is facilitated by betting on the use of vehicles that contribute 0 carbon dioxide (Co2) emissions. With these facilities, the Orotavense City Council wants to decisively promote sustainable mobility and contribute to environmental protection actions.
These first two quick charging points have been installed in the parking lot on Sabino Berthelot Street (El Mayorazgo urbanization) very close to the historic center, thus facilitating the visit of tourists or people who come to carry out any task and can leave their vehicles charging. .
Likewise, work is currently underway on the installation of two other new points on Mercedes Pinto Avenue, very close to the commercial area, and which will come into service next January.
For now, during the first months these points will be free for users since the town council is working on a tender that will include the management of these points, as well as the creation of other charging stations in different places in the municipality.
First vehicle
There is also a charging area in the City Council’s offices, since the installation of these first points has been accompanied by the acquisition of the first electric vehicle for the municipal vehicle fleet. It is a 100% electric vehicle with 0 Co2 emissions intended for the climate change area and also represents another step in the municipal Corporation’s commitment to emissions reduction measures.
The intention of the La Orotava City Council is to implement this type of vehicles within the municipal mobile park, betting on sustainable mobility of the services themselves.
