Avalanche at a Christmas Eve party in Tenerife that multiplied the allowed capacity by 10

Those attending the Univerzzo Christmas Eve party that was held on the night of December 24 at the Santa Cruz Dubai Room Tenerife They didn’t think what could happen when they bought the ticket. Upon arrival at the premises, they met a crowd of people that “was not normal”, as demonstrated by the images that have been spread on social networks. And according to the data managed by the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, the capacity was multiplied by ten: 150 people were allowed access but 1,500 tickets were sold.

The crowd forced the Local Police to evacuate the party, but the anxiety and nervousness had already taken over the attendees, even a young woman had to be treated for fainting. Some of the attendees report having felt “fear” and there are even those who explain that they thought that “we were not going to get out of the avalanche.”

The testimonies

Silvia Gutierrez

The one of Silvia Gutierrez, and that of many other young people who went to the party, it was not the night they expected. In fact, the event had been sold as a “exclusive party in the center of Santa Cruz”, which ended up being held at the Polígono del Mayorazgo. “We were very afraid. We thought that we were not going to get out of the avalanche of people who wanted to enter,” says the young woman.

For Silvia Gutiérrez, the avalanche was caused by the limited access time to the premises, since they only had between eleven thirty at night and one in the morning to enter the party, so most of the attendees He concentrated at the same time on the door. “People got nervous… And suddenly the pushing and desperation began,” she says, so since she was able to “escape” she decided to leave.

Christian Hernandez

Christian Hernández was another of those attending the Univerzzo party. The young man had already gone to previous parties that “had been good, without any problems, organized by young people from Santa Cruz,” but “this time it got out of hand.” He witnessed the fainting of a worker from an adjacent premises. “Nothing more serious than a miracle happened,” she says. He and his friends arrived at the place around one in the morning and the organization prohibited them from entering despite having a ticket.

“Tickets were sold through Instagram @univerzzzo.” It was planned as an “exclusive” party, with the novelty that until the same day the clients were not revealed where the venue was. The etiquette was a suit for them and a black cocktail dress for them.

Hernández paid 19 euros for his ticket, although this was not the only price, since they were put on sale in different batches of 12, 19, 25 and 30 euros.

Carlos Esparza

Carlos Esparza is one of the attendees who has spread the images of what happened at the Christmas Eve party at the Dubai Room. He went to the party because he couldn’t sell his ticket and preferred to accompany his sisters for a while. Although the plan was to leave early because he has just had appendicitis surgery. “When we were at the door It was already a point of no return because of all the people that accumulated and when I wanted to leave they already started to come inr people pushing and forming an avalanche“, Explain.

In addition, he points out that there were “many people who had paid their ticket and were told that they were going to stay out due to capacity.” His most immediate reaction was to quickly go to the highest part, which was the closet, and asked a worker if he could stay there with him until things calmed down. The young man explained the situation and they left him without any problem. “Once there, another avalanche of somewhat more uncontrolled people occurred.”

According to the young man, he also saw some girls crying or overwhelmed. In his case, he was in the closet between 01:40 and 03:00, approximately, and waited for her sisters to take them home for just over 20 minutes, which was what it took to evacuate the interior. of the premises.
