Fourteen environmental organizations will take legal action to clarify possible administrative and criminal responsibilities for access to Teide in an allegedly irregular manner by a ‘youtuber’ with whom the president of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Dávilahas negotiated the celebration of some awards on the island.
So that the ‘youtuber’ David Canovas Martínez, alias ‘TheGrefg’accessed Teide on November 23, a permit was granted outside the regulations and the cable car was even mobilized when it was closed for safety reasons due to strong winds, according to environmentalists.
They accuse the insular director of the Environment of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Pedro Millán, of allegedly breaking the rules of the National Park to benefit this ‘youtuber’, who also met with the president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, to negotiate the celebration in the island of the Esland Awards 2025 galaaimed at streaming content creators.
The representative of the Coordinadora El Rincón–Ecologistas en Acción exposed these alleged irregularities at the meeting of the board of trustees of the Teide National Park on December 20, but, according to these organizations, neither the president of the Tenerife Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, nor Manuel Durbán, conservative director of the park, nor Pedro Millán, responded.
According to the story of the , on November 25 the ‘influencer’ David Cánovas Martínez, alias ‘TheGrefg’, who creates audiovisual content unrelated to nature conservation, published a video about his ascent to the peak of Teide (https:// www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxdO4jPZAdQ) in which it transmits the false and dangerous message that it is suitable for everyone, when it is a high mountain route, and explains how they managed to use the cable car to go up despite the fact that it was inoperative due to bad weather.
For environmentalists, the most serious thing due to possible administrative and criminal responsibilities is that the ‘influencer’ mentions “a boss, a big boss from Tenerife, from the environment”, who even mobilizes the cable car one day when it was closed due to wind, to bring him a specific access permit to the peak of Teide, as well as a jacket and a banana.
“This man is such a boss that the cable car was deactivated, it was closed, and he activated it only to get on and grant me permission,” in the words of Cánovas.
“Pedro does us a favor and that is why we will be able to finish,” he adds, and in the images it is seen that it is Pedro Millán, Island Director of the Environment of the Cabildo de Tenerife, the ecologists explain.
For these nature protection groups, this accumulation of absurdities “not only endangers the lives of many people, but also transmits the message that, by knowing the right people, you can use the cable car freely and that you can even climb to the peak, skipping the appropriate permits”.
For this reason, they accuse Pedro Millan of having played with the lives of the cable car staff who accompanied him and remember that around those same dates the president of the Tenerife Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, met with David Cánovas ‘TheGrefg’ to negotiate the celebration of the Esland Awards in Tenerife in 2025 , as published in the media.
“Now we wonder if the irregular authorization to ascend Teide granted to Mr. Cánovas is part of that negotiation.”
The environmentalists have asked the Councilor for Natural Environment, Blanca Pérez, to open an internal investigation into what happened, to provide a copy of the access permit to the peak and to consult the legal service if there was an administrative infraction or crime.
They also want to know if the video, made for private and commercial purposes, had the required authorization.
Pedro Millán has been asked for a report on the use of the cable car “for only one person, himself”, when it was closed for safety reasons due to bad weather.
“We want to make it clear that we will take the appropriate legal actions before the corresponding authorities, with the aim of clarifying the facts and clarifying the responsibilities that Mr. Millán may have incurred,” they say.
