It had been announced and it was fulfilled. The Teide has welcomed Christmas with a white cloak, although timid for now, which could be observed during the first hours of yesterday. It is not ruled out that the snow will get worse in the coming hours.
During the early afternoon, cloud cover appeared in the area and the rain and snow did not stop in the Teide National Park, as can be seen through the cameras installed in both the Parador and the Teide Observatory.
The possibility of snow on Teide this Christmas was announced in the middle of the week, when the forecasts of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) were known. Thus, it was expected that the formation of a DANA on Canary Islands could leave snow on the peaks of Tenerife and La Palma, above 2,000 meters. Temperatures dropped from -3 in the National Park and reached -3.4 in Las Cañadas. The second coldest temperature yesterday was the 1.6 degrees recorded at the Izaña Observatory.
