A 70-year-old man was recovered yesterday Friday from cardiorespiratory arrest after suffering from choking on Avenida El Puente, in Santa Cruz de La Palma, as reported by the Emergency and Security Coordinating Center (Cecoes) 1-1-2.
The event occurred around 6:15 p.m., when the 1-1-2 operational room received an alert reporting that a person had choked in a hospitality establishment and required healthcare assistance, so the Cecoes activated immediately the necessary emergency resources.
A SUC nurse present in the operating room, after conducting the corresponding interrogation of the alerters, gave them the necessary instructions to provide the first attention to the affected person until the arrival of health resources.
Once there, SUC personnel verified that the affected person was in cardiorespiratory arrest and, together with a doctor from the area’s Health Center, they performed advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers, managing to recover his pulse. Once stabilized, he was transferred in critical condition to the General Hospital of La Palma.
National Police officers transported the doctor from the Health Center to the scene of the incident and, later, escorted the ambulance to the Hospital to facilitate the transfer of the affected person.
