Hemodonación Canarias activates Christmas hours at its fixed blood donation points

He Canarian Institute of Hemodonation and Hemotherapy (ICHH)dependent on the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islandslaunches Christmas hours in its network of fixed points in Tenerife and Gran Canariawhich will be active until January 10.

Given the forecast that the number of blood extractions will decrease during these holidays, the ICHH wants to encourage citizens to plan their donations to maintain the stock of all blood groups and, thus, cover the blood needs in hospital centers in Canary Islands.

All the schedules of the fixed points and the information related to blood donation in the Canary Islands can be consulted on the website effectdonation.com

ICHH fixed points in Tenerife

Santa Cruz de Tenerife has a fixed donation point at the ICHH headquarters on Méndez Núñez Street, 14, corner of Pí and Margall. Starting today it will be operational from Monday to Friday from 9:15 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., except holidays.

In the north of the island, the fixed point located on the first floor of the El Trompo Shopping Center in La Orotava (next to China Town), will serve donors from Monday to Thursday from 5:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Friday from 10:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

As for the south of Tenerife, the fixed point located at the San Isidro Health Center, located at number 2 Arguayoda Street, in Granadilla de Abona, activates its new schedule from Monday to Thursday from 1:15 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Fridays from 8:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., except holidays.

Both points have a parking space reserved for donors.

Fixed points in Gran Canaria

The provincial blood bank located on Alfonso XIII Street, number 4, The Gran Canarian palms, will be operational during the holidays from Monday to Friday from 9:15 a.m. to 8:15 p.m., except holidays. This point has a ford for donors.

Meanwhile, the fixed point of Santa Lucía de Tirajanalocated in the annex of the Health Center of Neighborhoodon Guatiza Street without number, will open to the public starting today from Monday to Wednesday from 5:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Thursday and Friday from 10:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., except holidays.

Requirements to donate blood

The basic requirements to donate blood are to be between 18 and 65 years old (up to 60 if it is your first donation), weigh more than 50 kilos, enjoy good general health and not be pregnant.

However, since there are multiple variables that can determine the suitability of the donor, the ICHH makes a self-assessment questionnaire available to citizens on its websitefectodonacion.com with which to check if they can donate blood.

The ICHH reminds the population that it is no longer necessary to make an appointment to donate.
