He Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council He reported this Thursday that he is going to meet with the Port Authority to find out how many taxis are needed in the port due to the arrival of cruise passengers and if it is necessary for them to work without restrictions to serve these travelers.
The City Council, in a statement, has indicated that it only knows the number of cruises per day, but lacks relevant information on the type of passengers likely to require this service.
For this reason, the City Council has decided to meet with the Port Authority once a month to adjust real demand as much as possible.
The mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, chaired the Taxi Table today, where the councilor of the area, Evelyn Alonso, Mobility technicians, representatives of professional associations and the Port Authority were also present.
According to Alonso, with the information provided by the Port Authority they will know in advance the needs of the cruise passengers and it will be possible to decide, as the City Council, whether it is necessary for all the units to operate on those days or not, without restrictions due to the bill of releases. .
The “purpose is none other than not to reduce the supply of taxis for the rest of the city; which does not seem easy to determine far in advance, so this monthly meeting will be held and, although it has been approved today, it will be reviewed when the necessary information is available and if necessary, it will be raised to a decree and modified,” he added. .
The study commissioned by the City Council was also presented at the Taxi Table, at the request of the Corporation’s own General Intervention, “since it understands that, as a result of the approval of the rescue of licenses, not everything can be solved, as to the competitiveness of the sector with this economic formula.”
“A series of improvements are also needed that are necessary in its operation,” they argue from the municipal Transport delegation, while adding that “these conclusions of the study have been shared with the advisory body and that will continue their course. administrative”.
From this parameter, the study has resorted to available sources such as regulations, reports, existing studies, statistics, databases, etc., where limitations have been found in obtaining objective data on the activity, among other reasons, because the sector The taxi does not have centralized information management.
In this regard, the Councilor for Mobility and transport delegate, Evelyn Alonso, has highlighted “the participatory process for the development of the regulations, whose prior public consultation on the modification of the Ordinance was carried out through the website of participation of the City Council, with contributions being registered until July 15, 2022.”
He recalled that “on May 22, 2023, the initial approval of the modification of the Municipal Ordinance Regulating the Rental Vehicle Service with Taximeter Device was published in the Official Gazette of the Province.”
“Once the allegations presented had been collected, a proposal was submitted to the September plenary session for final approval, although the municipal plenary session considered the sector’s request to leave it on the table, taking into account the ruling issued in parallel regarding the application of the urban rate,” he recalled.
For this reason, he added, the municipal plenary session began the file for the suppression of the T1 urban rate, concluding with approval by the Government of the Canary Islands and publication in the BOC on November 28.
In relation to the modification of the ordinance, which is intended to be approved in the municipal plenary session tomorrow, Friday, he has highlighted that “the objective of the same is none other than the regulation of the public transportation service for people who travel in “auto-taxis vehicles in the municipality of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.”
