SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, December 20 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo of Tenerife will look for alternatives for a new location for the Valle Colino regional hostel, located in the municipality of La Laguna, with the aim of providing a definitive solution to the deteriorating situation in which the facilities currently find themselves.
The president and vice president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila and Lope Afonso, respectively, visited the regional shelter this Wednesday together with the Minister of Animal Welfare, Valentín González.
During the visit, Dávila announced that the Cabildo intends to promote decisive animal welfare policies, among which the search for a new location for this shelter stood out, which he described as “the first step to achieve an Island Network of Regional Shelters.”
For his part, Lope Afonso stressed the idea that the Government “seeks to provide the island with a true insular Animal Welfare policy, which must start from the reactivation of the Animal Welfare Council, trying to bring together all possible entities.”
From there, he assured, “we are going to make decisions that direct this island policy towards providing better infrastructure and equipment in this area, working as a network, involving entities and city councils.”
This idea was endorsed by the Minister of Animal Welfare, Valentín González, who indicated that “the future of Valle Colino involves promoting a new Valle Colino, in collaboration with the municipalities of the metropolitan area”, after which he assured that they are already immersed in the search for a new location “that allows us to improve the conditions in which the animals are kept and the professionals carry out their work.”
Currently, Valle Colino is home to 240 dogs and fifty cats, according to a note from the Cabildo.
