He Tank Town Hall awarded to Aqualia the works to improve the municipality’s drinking water supply infrastructure, for 1,173,600 euros and 11 months execution period. The company designed a plan of actions aimed at improving the condition of the drinking water tanks in service, the interconnection network between them, the general distribution network and its sectorization, as well as the installation of measurement and control elements.
One of the relevant measures is the removal of the entire meter fleet (about 1,500 and more than half are over 12 years old) and the implementation of a fixed network for remote meter reading in the same location. It will allow you to automatically collect consumption data for your diagnosis, analysis and billing.
Aqualia too will install new pressure reducing valves at strategic points in the supply network that allow proper functioning of the network. Due to the geographical configuration of the municipality, with large unevenness, a large part of the network pipes suffer excessive pressure, which endangers its stability and causes breaks and water leaks.
Control and improvement
The tank has almost 3,000 inhabitants and its population centers are distributed between 400 and 1,350 meters of altitude. One of its peculiarities is that a high percentage of its surface covers agricultural and livestock farm areas, which require a significant amount of water for their activity. These spaces will also have general water meters.
The water supply in the municipality of Tanque is distributed in nine sectors that operate independently. To improve the operation of the system, Aqualia announces that it will proceed to the subsectorization of some areas, as well as the installation of valves throughout each of the sectors to guarantee detailed control of water consumption.
The water tanks will require a unique intervention. Deficiencies have been detected in some of them such that, in some cases, they fail to comply with the provisions of Royal Decree 3/2023, which establishes the technical and health criteria for the quality of drinking water, its control and supply.
The work to be carried out in the warehouses will consist of undertaking waterproofing, renewing the pipes and valves in the key chamber, as well as improving the electrical supply and the disinfection system, as well as repairing the covers. Aqualia also reports that it is contemplating other actions focused on the overall improvement of the tanks to increase their functionality and useful life.
